25. EyeLure Natural Volume False Eyelashes Double Pack - Finished 4/3/13 - I didn't get as much wear out of these as I should have. I need to work out a better cleaning method.
26. Lumene Artic Aqua Skin Perfecting Moisture Booster - Finished 4/4/13 - This is wholy grale for me although I have never tried another moisture booster. I use this in place of a day serum and it works well at locking moisture in my skin so it doesn't have flakey patches by the end of the day.
27. Avon Solutions Winter Enjoy the Day Cream - Finished 4/4/13 - I love this for my dry winter skin. It has a subtle iridescence that gives my dull winter skin some life. I would repurchase if it weren't discontinued. I do have one more backup for next winter.
28. Olay Professional ProX Skin Tightening Serum - Finished 4/7/13 - Did this tighten my skin? No. But it did work well as a serum for making my skin feel smooth.
29. EyeLure Natural Volume False Eyelashes Double Pack - Finished 4/14/13 - See above.
30. Avon Solutions Winter Nourishing Night Cream - Finished 4/17/13 - I like this but not as much as the day cream. I have other night moisturizers that work better even in the winter.
31. e.l.f. Mist and Fix Spray - Finished ? - I use this to wet my brush when I want less heavy foundation coverage. It works fine. I have already opened my backup. 
32. Neutrogena naturals - Finished 4/21/13 - I like this a lot. I will probably repurchase but right now I am trying something new (to me) from Boots.

34. Oscar Blandi Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner Sample Packet - Finished 4/6/13 - Oh my, this smelled so good. My opinions have not changed about high-end shampoo and conditioner but I will gladly use any sample that I am given especially if it smells this good
35. Tree Hut Shea Body Butter in Coconut Lime Delux Sample - Finished 4/9/13 - I got this little tub in a sample bag from Target, I think. I did like it but like the body shop one better. I do like the scent but I don't love smelling like a tropical drink. I would consider purchasing a full size in a different 'flavor'.
36. Fekkai She Butter Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner Sample Packet - Finished 4/12/13 - I cannot imagine the time in my life when I will spend a lot of money on my shampoo or conditioner. I liked this. Its scent is wonderful.
37. Smashbox Photo Finish Luminizing Face Primer - Finished ? - I love this! I mix it with my more matte finish foundations to give my face a more dimensional look. It is great! I have other luminizing primers but this is the one I prefer. I will purchase a full size when I have worked though the other full size and sample primers in my stash.
38. John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Sample Packet - Finished 4/19/13 - I like this smell of this and it did make my hair soft. I doubt I will purchase the full size.
39. L'Occitane Precious Serum Sample - Finished 4/19/13 - I like this as much as I like any serum. I woke up the next day (I used it at night) and my skin was soft and smooth. I have a bunch of serums and serum samples but I would consider purchasing this one (or another high end serum) once I have worked thought what I already have.
40. Urban Decay Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer Sample Packet - Finished 4/20/13 - I don't love this. It wasn't a good color match and I have other tinted moisturizers or BB Creams that I like better.
41. Nexxus Therappe Luxurious Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner Sample Packet - Finished 4/25/13 - As always this was fine. I don't remember having any really strong feelings about this one way or another.
42. Viva La Juicy La Fleur Spray Perfume Sample - Finished 4/25/13 - I am not a huge fan of the Juicy perfumes but this is probably my favorite. I won't purchase a full size as I have other perfumes that I like better.

Foundation Review - Estee lauder Double Wear & Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse

For the past handful of months, I have been choosing one (or a combination) of my many foundations and using only that for the whole month. I think I will also add a mid-month review of the foundations. This month it is my Estee Lauder Double Wear for the center of my face and Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse to blend everything out and give my face a better finish than it would have with Double Wear alone.

My thoughts:

• Estee Lauder Double Wear in 1C1 Shell - I bought this at a CCO quite a while ago. It isn't the best match for me but it works great for my needs. I like this foundation but it is thick and the finish is too matte for my dry skin. I find it works best for me when I mix in a primer that has some dimension. My favorite is Smashbox Photo Finish Illumizing Primer but since I have run out of that, I am using Spackle by Laura Geller in either Bronze or Champagne. Both work just fine. I tend to use a damp BeautyBlender for application. I rarely, if ever, use this foundation on my whole face as it can look very cake-y and too makeup-y if I am not very, very careful. Because of its staying power, this foundation works great on my nose and the surrounding area which has some redness and larger pores and is the place where foundation wears off first on my face. I am not sure if I will repurchase this foundation as the formulation has changed and it is quite expensive, even at the CCO. Revlon ColorStay does the same job for me at a much less expensive drugstore price.
• Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse in Porcelain Ivory - I chose this foundation because it is at the end of its life. I used a helpful website that deciphers the manufacturing code to find out when it 'expires'. This will need to be tossed at the end of the month. I have more than hit pan but I doubt I will completely finish the product by the end of the month. Enough about that. I really like the finish that this gives my skin. It is a great color match for my skin tone. I can apply this with either a BeautyBlender, a buffing brush or even a stippling brush with great results. It is a foundation that I don't have to work hard to use. My only complaint is the staying power. It does not last long, even on my dry skin. I will probably repurchase this color but will wait until next winter as, for me, this foundation is best used on my dry winter skin.

March Discoveries and Favorites

I haven't done a discoveries and favorites post for quite a while so let's just get started.

 

• Eylure Naturalites False Eyelashes in Natural Volume - I loathe wearing mascara. I have sparce and short eyelashes and have not found a mascara to rectify those issues. Enter false lashes. I have tried them in the past and was unsuccessful in putting them on. Then I found these. They have a very light band and are easy to maneuver and shape to my lash line. I love them and it takes less time to put them on than it does to put on a couple of coats of mascara. They look natural and you don't even have to wear black eyeliner with them. I clean them fairly well and use them over and over again. I don't think I will give up mascara but I will use false lashes more often then not.
• Nars Light Reflecting Setting Powder in Translucent Crystal - I bought this before the Hourglass Illuminating Powders came out. I am glad that I did. I love this as a finishing powder. I also have the pressed version but like this one better.
• Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance Lipstick - I have these in Pure and Inspired and love the formula of both. I have recently tried many higher end lip products (TooFaced, YSL, Dior and MAC) and for right now these are my favorites.
• Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Mood Light - I own three of these and this is my favorite. Not as an all-over face powder but as a topping to my blush. I can even wear it alone as blush when I want a more subtle look.
• Buxum Lipgloss - I love the way these make my lips look. I top almost every lip combo with one so my lips took a tad fuller and much more hydrated. I bought a kit of them around the holidays and have started collecting them since then.

This list includes some products that dried out or cracked and are no longer usable. It feels a bit like cheating but I did try and use them and needed to take them out of my collection. Next month should prove to be a good month because I am (hopefully) going to finish most of my winter skincare. Yay!

10. e.l.f. Brush Shampoo - Finished - 3/3/13 - I hate this stuff. It doesn't clean my brushes at all. The best brush cleaner is Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Soap. I have one more of these to use because I bought 3 thinking soap is soap. How bad can this be? Well it is useless as a brush cleaner.
11. The Body Shop Travel Size Shower Gel in Pink Grapefruit - Finished 3/3/13 - I will always own this both because I like it and because it will remind me of my daughters since they gave it to me as a gift.
12. Pacifica Body Butter in Tuscan Blood Orange - Finished 3/4/13 - I got this in a GlossyBox, I think. I like this but I like The Body Shop's Body butters better. I own the perfume and like the scent  but don't love it.
13. Everyday Minerals Lippy in Fauna - I give up 3/5/13 - I have been trying to use this up for a long time. It is my everyday 'in my purse' lipstick. It was starting to get hard, so I tried to wipe off the outter bit, as I have done in the past, but it just didn't work this time. I love the color. The formula is ok but the reason I kept using this is the color, I will miss having it in my collection.
14. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser - Finished 3/8/13 - I like this cleanser a lot. I am now using the foaming cleanser by CeraVe and it is alright but I think this will be my go-to winter cleanser from now on.
15. Tarte empasEYES waterproof clay shadow/liner in Plum - I give up 3/13/13 - I just don't use cream/gel liners fast enough. This one dried out in less than a year. Bummer. (an aside: It does feel a bit like cheating putting these on my list instead of putting them in a purge post but I am reserving the purges to usable products that I don't use.)

22. Wet n Wild Natural Blend Pressed Powder in Bare - I give up 3/18/13  This was never a great color match for my skin. I used what I could but it has started to crack and the package is such that it isn't salvagable.
23. Revlon ColorStay Liquid Makeup for Normal/Dry Skin in 110 Ivory - Finished 3/30/13  - I use this to mix with other foundations to give them more staying power. If I don't mix it completely I will use it on my nose which tends to have more redness than the rest of my face. I already have a backup. I also use Estee Lauder DoubleWear the same way but tend to like the ColorStay a bit better.

23. Stila Kitten Eye Shadow Card - Finished - 3/15/13 - I like this eyeshadow with all of its sparkle. I have it in a couple of stila palettes but just wanted to use this sample.
24. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Card in Midnight Cowboy Rides Again and Flipside - Finished - 3/17/13 - I love Urban Decay's eyeshadows. I even love the way to sparkle-y ones.
25. Urban Decay Primer Potion Card Sample - Finished - 3/17/13 - I have said it before and I will probably say it again...this is a fine primer. I have others that I like better but this one does the job.
26. Boscia BB Cream Sample - Finished - 3/17/13 - Holy way to dark for me, Batman. I am making it work by using a too light powder, blending it down my neck and wearing a scarf but definitely won't purchase a full-sided because the self-adjusting shade doesn't adjust for my skintone.
27. dirt Sow + Reap Lux Salt Scrub - Finished - 3/18/13 - I love the scent of this though I am not sure what it was as the container doesn't have the flavor on it. I would never pay $45 for the full size but did enjoy using it while it lasted.
28. Redkin Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner - Finished - 3/18/13 - I keep getting these as sample and using them even though I don't color my hair. It is fine but won't waste the money on a color protecting shampoo if I don't need one.
29. Garnier Fructis Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner Sample Packs - Finished - 3/20/13 - I actually really like this. I would consider purchasing a full size of both products.
30. Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer Deluxe Sample - Finished - 3/28/13 - I like this a lot. It dries to a powdery finish that is easy to apply eyeshadow over. I would consider purchasing a full size once I run out of all the other lid primers in my collection.
31. Angels's Magic NHEB-05 Lotion Sample - Finished - 3/29/13 - Got this as a sample from somewhere. It is fine. It is just a lotion with a nice scent, nothing really special.

The Great Purge - Misc. Edition

Slowly but surely I am re-organizing and re-thinking my make-up collection. Today I moved some things around and am tossing a handful of items that no longer work for me and/or I no longer reach for (if I ever did). Without further ado, here are the latest victims of my Great Purge:

• Ulta Minerals Pressed Foundation in ??? - The label fell off long ago. It is cracked and has started to crumble. I used to use this as my summer touch up powder and liked it ok but it has become unusable.
• Pur Minerals Marble Powder in Bronze - I got this as a sample and from the get go it smelled 'off'. I never reach for it and can't even say if I like it or not. I doubt I will be investigating this product any further.
• Estee Lauder Signature EyeShadow  Palette in 9 - I got this in a gift with purchase that I bought at Marshalls. I don't like the formula of these shadows one bit. I don't even love the colors.
• Providence and Grace Lipstick in Dusty Rose - I love this but it has turned. The duo chrome pink and blue is fun to wear. I don't think I will repurchase as these don't last as long as they should.
• Providence and Grace Blush Sample in Sunset - Pretty but just too shimmery for me.
• Eyeshadow Sample in Light Brown - I got this when on an etsy.com sample buying binge. I know I will never use it so why keep it!?

13. Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil Delux Sample in Whiskey - Finished - 2/4/13 -  I have been working on this for what seems like forever. I love these pencils and if I ever run out of the samples and ones that came in palettes, I will surely purchase a full size.

16. Ecru Acadia Protein Oil Sample - Finished - 2/5/13 - I got this in one of my sample boxes. I love to use oil on my dry air and this one worked well I would concider purchasing a full size but will probably continue to buy my BioSilk.
17. Urban Decay Primer Potion Sample Card - Finished - 2/6/13 - I like it. I got it with an Urban Decay Order and used it up right away.
18. KMS Moistrepair Shampoo and Conditioner Sample - Finished - 2/11/13 - THis was fine but didn't get enough to find out if it really would repair the moisture levels in my dry hair.
19. Ahava Mineral Hand Cream Delux Sample- Finished - 2/12/13 - I got this in a BirchBox (I think) and like it, mostly because of the scent. I kept it in my purse and it did a decent job of moisturizing my hands.
20. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance Sample - Finished - 2/22/13 - I do love this primer and I love primers that give my skin some shine, especially in the winter. I have many that do something similar and once I have used all of them, I will probably purchase a full size of this because it is really nice.

My goal is to use up 60 full size and 100 sample sized products in 2013.

1. Johnson's Baby Shampoo - Finished - 1/1/13 - I use this (about) weekly to deep clean my brushes. I have a store brand backup but will probably repurchase the Johnson's at some point
2. Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser - Finished 1/3/13 - This is my second bottle of this. I like it alright but am going to try some others before I repurchase.
3. e.l.f. Conditioning Body Butter in Vanilla Coconut - Finished - 1/18/13 - I like this but not as much as the Body Butter I am currently using.
4. Rite Aid Brand 91% Isopropyl Alcohol - Finished 1/25/13 - I use some of this in a spray bottle to spot clean my bushes. I am trying to work through some Sephora brush cleaner but don't like it as much.
5. Avon Naturals Shower Gel in Lemon Blossom & Basil - Finished - 1/28/13 - This is okay especially for the sale price that I paid. I wish the scent was a bit stronger as I love lemon scents and you can barely smell this right out of the bottle.
6. Lumene Artic Aqua 2in1 Skin-Perfecting Moisture-Booster - 1/28/13 - I love this and already have a backup and will more than likely repurchase next winter.

6. Juvexin Hair Taming System Balancing Conditioner Deluxe Sample - Finished 1/9/12 - I like this but probably won't purchase the full sized as I don't spend that much on my hair care.
7. Juice Beauty Cleansing Gel and Oil-Free Moisture - Finished 1/9/12 - I can't remember if I what I feel about these packets.
8. Tarte Clean Slate Natural Face Primer Deluxe Sample - Finished - 1/18/13 - This is a silicone-y primer. It is okay but I have others that I like more.
9. Juice Beauty Green Apple SPF 15 Moisturizer Deluxe Sample - Finished 1/19/13 - I like this and would consider purchasing this summer. It is not a heavy enough for winter.
10. NuMe Arganics Argon Oil Deluxe Sample - Finished 1/29/13 - This is a fine argon oil. I doubt I will repurchase but would consider it after I work through my many samples.
11. Too Faced Lash Injection Mascara - I Give Up - 1/31/13 - I tried to like this but if this is what tubing mascaras are like, I don't like them at all.
